Homework for Dad on Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day! I came across this brief article from ‘Men’s Health’ that had been posted to me on one of my on-line auto-subscriptions of all things educational! The article is short and punchy and deals with the best way to support your children in the homework arena.
I am always impressed with the parents who are able to deliver consistent routines, times and locations as a means of stable on-going study habit and I suspect these habits are developed very early. I’m certainly not a perfect parent in this arena so was interested in this general list of suggestions. Would love to hear your successful additions?

We haven’t had any homework wars. Maybe because our girl is the sort of kid that would rather go to school than take a day off to go to the show/fair. But, I think a big part of it is the school’s philosophy. Homework started in grade 1, with the standard “read every night for 10 minutes”. In grade 2 they had a page of questions/review for different subjects/topics to do for the week; in grade 3 it was 2 pages; by grade 4 or 5 it was a page a night. Now in grade 7 it’s supposed to be 45 minutes; it’s often much longer than that in practice; but never once has it been an issue (except when mum/dad plans other activities that interfere with her self-imposed schedule).
